There isn't a succinct way to describe the multifaceted sound of Edmonton's Boogie Howser. Drawing from a wide array of influences and palettes — jazz, house, footwork, hip-hop, experimental beats — Boogie weaves familiar sonic concepts into distinctly fresh and lush aural tapestries. Previous releases on Calgary's Close to Modern and California's Black Marble Collective served to establish Howser's unique voice, and his Tidal Haze release on Drama Hands sees him further exploring the club space.

"Ocean as Her Backdrop" opens the record — a woozy nod to classic house, full of dreamy pads and a soaring gospel vocal at the track's peak. "Ice Coast" oscillates between breaks, ethereal synths, and rolling percussion, never staying in one space for too long. "Peripheral Greyscale" finds Boogie in his element — crafting expansive, pulsing beats and fluttering atmospherics while flirting with half time and 4/4 structures. "Purple Clouds in July" carries this sound deeper — a syrupy track whose lulling plucks feel like fogged up windows. "Timelapse Rainforest", a bubbling take on 2-step, conjures a sun-kissed coastal drive, while the final cut, "Shawn Colvin", dissolves into abstract soundscapes which float beneath a warbled horn section.

On the remix front — Hood Joplin puts lush pad stabs and a footwork spin on "Peripheral Greyscale", Drama Hands resident Gumsmile gives a tense club-ready focus to "Purple Clouds in July", and Manicure Records boss GHIBLI adds extra champagne bubbles to "Timelapse Rainforest", morphing it into a hypersonic disco-tinged anthem.
